A review of past weekend and of upcoming matches

There were some great Keystone Rugby Conference matches this past weekend. The match of the week between James Madison & Pitt, did not disappoint. In a tight first half, the score was locked at 12-12 by halftime. In the second half, it was James Madison that jumped out in front and put the hosts under pressure. To Pitts credit, not only did they work there way back into the match they were able to comeback and win the game.  The victory gives Pitt a 4-0 divisional record and sole possession of first place in the West Division.

Also in the west, Shippensburg got their first win of the season when they beat Lock Haven 48-19. Shippensburg was able to cross over the try line 8 times during the match.

In the East, Rutgers at Saint Joseph's was another match that gave the fans their money's worth.  Saint Joseph's struck early with a try from winger Chris Curcio in the first half. In a tough defensive game, the only other points awarded in the first half came from penalty kicks. Saint Joseph's held a narrow lead of 8-6 at halftime. In the second half, lock Derek Flitcroft muscled his way in for a Rutgers try to give them a 11-8 lead. Later, Rutgers successfully kicked a penalty kick to extend their lead to 14-8. As the match headed into to injury team, it was Saint Joseph's that would strike again as center Dan Deal weaved his way in for the score. With the successful conversion, the Hawks came out on top, 15-14.

Also in the East, Temple traveled to West Chester.  West Chester did a great job utilizing their forwards and kept it close in the first half. In the second half, Temple was able to find their traction and score several trys to give them the 47-8 victory.

Heading into the upcoming weekend, final divisional standings should start to take shape. In the West, Shippensburg will head out to James Madison and Millersville will travel to Lock Haven. Pitt will have a bye.  In the East, Temple will travel to Villanova which should be an exciting match. The Saint Joseph's at West Chester match has been postponed to October 31st so we will have to wait until next weekend for that result. Rutgers will have a bye in Conference play this weekend.

Good luck to all teams this weekend.
