The University of Delaware will join the MARC in fall 2019...

The Univeristy of Delaware Men's Rugby program will be joining the Mid Atlantic Rugby Conference starting in the fall of 2019. Delaware will compete in D1AA of the MARC which will include IUP, Pitt, Rowan, Saint Joseph's, Temple, recently added Townson, West Chester, and West Virginia. "The MARC is excited to have the prestigious Delaware program join the conference. We think it will be an excellent fit for our Conference and it will be great to have both the men's and women's programs under the MARC umbrella." said the MARC Director Dan Yarusso.  The current president of the rugby program, Hunter Hastings, commented "Joining the MARC next season will allow us to compete with top quality teams in our area and continue our rich history of competition in the Mid-Atlantic region. Personally, I am excited to see the growth of the program under the MARC as over the years we scheduled our non-conference games  against the tough members in this division. It is a privilege to join a great league."

The University of Delaware is the largest public University in the state of Delaware and the main campus is located in Newark, DE. With just over 18,500 undergraduate students, the University classifies itself as a research intensive university with a variety of majors ranging in engineering, the sciences, and business.

The University of Delaware Men’s Rugby team was founded in 1972, and after returning to campus in 2015, the team has competed at the D1A level. Most recently the team has played in the Liberty conference, against teams such as Iona College, Fordham, and AIC. This coming season Delaware is excited to be entering MARC to compete against great local schools. “Delaware looks forward to joining the MARC next season and playing some different teams closer to the school”
said Luke Persanis, the Captain of UDRFC.

About the MARC:

The Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference (MARC) is one of the biggest collegiate rugby conferences in the United States that features both men teams and women teams. The MARC is split up into various divisions to allow teams to remain in Conference while having the ability to move to a division that meets their competitive needs from year to year. The MARC currently has a D1AA, D2, and NSCRO for the men and D2 and NSCRO for the women. The MARC recognizes that the teams work with a limited budget and aims to regionalize play to limit travel expenses. The MARC focuses on 15's in the fall and 7's in the spring. The MARC has an open door policy and any team interested in joining should reach out to a board of director member to learn more.
