Towson University will compete in MARC D1AA Fall 2019...

Towson University will be joining the MARC in the fall of 2019 and competing in the MARC's D1AA division. Towson Univeristy located just outside Baltimore, MD is coming from the strong Chesapeake Rugby Conference (D1AA) and will look to make an impact in the MARC starting this fall. "We are thrilled to welcome a caliber Towson University program to our Conference this upcoming fall season" says Dan Yarusso, MARC Director.  Towson is one of the largest public Universities in Maryland and produces the most teachers of any University in the state.

Towson University Rugby was founded in 1975 and has a rich tradition of success out on the field over the years. Tony De Cesare is the Head Coach of the program and is excited for the opportunity to play in the MARC. "After 3 competitive years in the Chesapeake Conference, Towson is looking forward to the opportunity to compete in the MARC in 2019.  Due to the proximity and similarity of the other schools in the conference, we feel it is the best fit for our program right now.  We have played "friendly" matches against most of the programs over the last few years and we are really excited to join such a sound organization." MARC D1AA Coordinator, John Sciotto, echo's Coach De Cesare by stating "Towson will be a good fit for the MARC given their level of play and their location to the other MARC D1AA teams."  The program has been nationally ranked by FloRugby, Goff Rugby Report, & Rugby Today and look to be a quality addition to the MARC D1AA. To date, the MARC D1AA will now include Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Rowan University, Saint Joseph's University, Temple University, Towson University, University of Pittsburgh, West Chester University, and West Virginia University.

About the MARC:

The Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference (MARC) is one of the biggest collegiate rugby conferences in the United States that features both men teams and women teams. The MARC is split up into various divisions to allow teams to remain in Conference while having the ability to move to a division that meets their competitive needs from year to year. The MARC currently has a D1AA, D2, and NSCRO for the men and D2 and NSCRO for the women. The MARC recognizes the teams work with a limited budget and aims to regionalize play to limit travel expenses. The MARC focuses on 15's in the fall and 7's in the spring. The MARC has an open door policy and any team interested in joining should reach out to a board of director member to learn more.
