MARC Fall 2020 Statement

08/27/2020, 12:00pm EDT
By John Gulden

August 27, 2020 - We are sad to announce that due to the COVID -19 virus, the MARC is canceling the Fall 2020 regular and post season play. The MARC will not sanction competitive collegiate rugby for the Fall of 2020.

The Board of Directors voted not to sanction MARC play in the 2020 Fall for Men’s DIAA, Men’s and Women’s DII, Men’s Small College and Men’s Fall 7s. This decision did not come easy but majority of our members are unable to compete or participate in off campus activities due to university guidelines. The MARC will be working with the NCR and ACRA to assist our members during these challenging times.

If our members are able to participate in on campus or other activities, they should follow their state, local, and federal guidelines. The MARC has members spread across 5 states including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia. Our members also need to follow their university, NCR, ACRA, and USA Rugby guidelines for all team activities including the need to register players, coaches and their team with appropriate entity for insurance purposes if you are allowed to participate on campus or in other activities.

The MARC will continue to monitor changes and update our members as they happen. The Board will convene to discuss the steps going forward with the Spring 2021 season. Even though we will not be having a Fall season we encourage our members to stay active on campus and in their community. Thank you for your understanding.

Stay safe and healthy,

John Gulden

Women’s DII Joins ACRA…

05/26/2020, 12:45pm EDT
By John Gulden

The Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference is pleased to announce their commitment to the ACRA Women’s Division II competition beginning Fall 2020.  The MARC Conference was created in 2012 The Mid Atlantic Rugby Conference—operates as a regional Collegiate competitive organization in conjunction with USA Rugby. MARC administers over 50 Collegiate and University rugby programs, and 2,000 student athletes, in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, and Delaware. The MARC mission is to administer and promote competitive rugby, player and coach development, player safety, and community service.

When asked about MARC’s commitment to ACRA Women’s Coordinator Samantha Hoegle said. “ACRA’s sole dedication to women’s rugby made them a great choice for the MARC. The level of competition will be very high with perennial national competitors and cost will be low, both of which were important factors for teams during this tumultuous time of USA Rugby reorganizations and COVID-19”

ACRA was formed about seven years ago and operated women's collegiate rugby in the Northeast, working hard to produce a fall-centric competitive cycle. Once USA Rugby developed a fall playoff for women's D2 college, and ACRA went dormant, but with the massive changes in who is running the college game, ACRA is back. The MARC joins Tri-State Conference and the New England Wide Collegiate Rugby Conference in the ACRA.

The MARC now serves ten women DII programs including newly added Salisbury University. Salisbury joins Bloomsburg University, Temple University, Saint Joseph University, The College of New Jersey, Rowan University, Kutztown University, Drexel University, University of Delaware, and the University of Pennsylvania.
