About Us

In the fall of 2014, West Chester University Men’s Rugby signed Bjorn Haglid from the University of Delaware to become the new head coach of the program. Since the arrival of Bjorn Haglid, the program has competed in the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship at PPL Park and developed to become one of the top programs on the east coast.

In the fall of 2016, the Golden Rams placed second in the east division of the Keystone Conference beating Temple and Villanova University. The Golden Rams made it to the final four in the Keystone Conference and placed 4th. The Golden Rams lost to Saint Joseph’s University in the first round, and then lost to Temple University in the second round for 3rd place. At the end of the 15’s season, the Golden Rams were happy with the improvement that the team had made within the two years under Bjorn.

In the spring of 2017, the Golden Rams placed 3rd in the Keystone Conference for 7’s. Beating teams such as West Virginia, Villanova, Rowan, James Madison and Millersville University. The last two years, the Golden Rams competed in the Philadelphia Division in the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby 7’s Championship. The Golden Rams finished 2-2 losing to Mount Saint Mary’s and Drexel University by a try each, and beating Rowan and Villanova University in the last two games.

In the fall of 2017, the Golden Rams beat the University of Delaware 41-40 in an exciting preseason match. After defeating the University of Delaware, the Golden Rams made it into the D1-AA rankings being ranked #41. The Golden Rams than faced #19 St. Joes University in Wilmington, Delaware where the Rams lost 38-24. Even though the team lost a hard fought battle, the Golden Rams moved up to #38 in the D1-AA rankings. The Golden Rams had their first conference match against Villanova University where the Golden Rams came out on top 50-35. The Golden Rams face off against Rowan University on 9/30/2017 at West Chester University hoping to redeem themselves at a shot of being the MARC 15’s champions.
